TOP TIPS - How To Pack
for your move with us in the Ipswich, Woodbridge, Felixstowe, Stowmarket and the surrounding Suffolk areas

For A Smooth Move

Moving house can be a stressful time, having to secure a buyer, find your new dream home, pack up all your belongings, then there’s the big move to co-ordinate and all whilst juggling work and family life! So here are our top tips to help make your move a smooth one.

  • Don’t leave the packing to the last minute. By the day before the move you should only have your essentials left to pack.
  • Pack room by room. Start with the spaces you use least, such as spare rooms, cupboards, lofts, utility rooms, sheds and garages.
  • If it fits in a box, it should be packed. Any loose items such as curtain poles, bed rails, bits of wood or tools should be taped or tied into manageable bundles.
  • Heavy items such as books should be packed into small boxes, to make transporting them easier and to avoid back injury. Be sure to use quality removal boxes that are strong and sturdy.
  • Fill boxes ensuring nothing rattles about, secure top and bottom with packing tape.
  • Dismantle flat pack furniture as required, unless you have arranged for us to do it.
  • Crockery, china and other delicate items should be wrapped in packing paper and plates should be packed vertically (stood on end, not flat) to avoid breakages.
  • Pictures and mirrors should be bubble wrapped and taped together into manageable bundles. Bedding and soft toys can be put into boxes or bags.
  • Write on boxes a brief list of enclosed items along with its room name or number. Label corresponding rooms in new house.
  • Most important of all, remember to leave out the tea making equipment! Moving house is thirsty work!

Before you move...

Moving house can be a stressful process so here are few tips you could follow to make sure everything runs smoothly and avoids any unnecessary stress.

  • Create a packing list. This will help to keep you on track and organized.
  • Declutter. Sort out what to sell, donate or recycle. Charity shops and online auction sites are great places to get rid of unwanted items. By having a clear out, you’ll make packing and moving easier as well as reducing your costs.
  • Write on boxes a brief list of enclosed items along with its room name or number. Label corresponding rooms in new house. Item
  • Pack an essentials box for the first night in your new home, including useful items such as a torch, first aid kit, pain killers, pad and pen and toilet roll. Pack an overnight bag for everyone in the family too, that way there shouldn’t be any frantic and chaotic late night unpacking searching for a phone charger or your pyjamas!
  • Get all your laundry washed and dried before you move, carrying wet or dirty clothes is not ideal.
  • Don’t forget to arrange your utilities, inform your bank, phone and internet provider and of course let the milkman know you’re on the move!
  • Compile a FACT FILE for the people moving into your home, including instruction leaflets on the heating and water systems, any appliances you may be leaving, details of bin collection days, recycling schemes, doctors, local tradesmen and other nearby services, as well as useful information like where the stopcock and fuse box are allocated.
  • If necessary liaise with neighbours so we can park the lorry. We will need about four car lengths.
